Kid’s Clothing Swap- this Saturday, April 4th

Saturday, April 4th from 10-12 at the HMB Pre-school/Day-care building behind the HMB School.

It is a big clothing exchange for children sized 0-8. Bring spring/ summer clothes that are clean, in good shape and ready to wear (maternity clothes welcome). No rips, tears or stains. Also welcome are books, toys and accessories that are in good condition. Clothes will be separated into 4 major size groups and marked with signs. Add the clothes you bring into the matching size piles. It is recommended that you separate your clothing by size before the swap to save time and be sure to arrive a little early. The swap will begin as soon as everyone has finished placing their clothes in the appropriate piles. When the swap begins, look through the piles to find the items in the sizes you need and put them in your bag. There are no minimum requirements for how many items you have to bring or how many you can take, but please be courteous and generous. Items that do not get swapped will be donated.

Upcoming Education workshop.

“Making the Best Educational Choice for Your Child”- A Learning Out of Bounds Workshop

Darcy Kaltio is a BC Certified teacher with 8 years of teaching experience. She has had a passion and commitment for education since she was a youth attending Chatelech. She has since been on a quest to discover how our education system can evolve so that children are more fulfilled by their experience. To discuss her ideas, a workshop will be presented by Darcy Kaltio, Catherine Strickland and Tina Marie Meyer of ‘The Joy of Learning Network’ at Cooper’s Green Hall, in Halfmoon Bay on Sunday, February 8th from 1-4pm. Cost is $20. Please see learningoutofbounds.com   for more details.

In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn about:

-what our public school system is providing

-what alternative schools are providing

-what homeschooling provides

-what the holes are in each of these and what to do about it

-what all of this means for your child

This workshop may be for you if:

you want to ensure that your child’s social, emotional and spiritual being is going to be taken care of at school; you are afraid that the potential you see in your child will be lost at school; you are fearful that you will make a mistake or the wrong choice about your child’s schooling; you are trying to balance the needs of family, career and your child’s school experience; you’ve considered homeschooling and alternative schools but you aren’t sure if those will work for your family.

To Register: Go to the Learning Out of Bounds website where you will be able to register. Or call 250-218-5130 or email info@learningoutofbounds.com  with any questions. Sunday, February 8th, 2009, 1:00-4:00pm Cooper’s Green Hall in beautiful Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast, cost $20.

Halloween Dance at Welcome Beach Hall!!!!!

The Halfmoon Bay childcare centre society is hosting a fundraiser Halloween Dance on October 25th, 2008. It will be at Welcome Beach Hall from 7:00-11:00. There will be live music to dance to, prizes for Original Costume, Best Group Costume and Spot Dances, as well as beer, wine and snacks.  We are looking for people to help with all aspects of the organizing of this event, including ticket sellers, bartending, decorating, or if you’d like to donate a prize. Please call Jacquie at 604 885-3103 or, e-mail  jacquiec@dccnet.com. Thank-you for supporting our great Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre.

Community Garage Sale

Do you have a pile of clutter at home?  You’ve been meaning to sell it at a garage sale, but can’t get around to organizing one.  Why not set up a table at our Community Garage Sale?  For $15 you get a table (and the floor space around it) to sell your treasures.  Table rental profits will go to the HMB Child Care Society.  If you don’t have a lot of items, why not split a table with friends or family?  There will be lots of great items for sale including housewares,  kids stuff, free boxes, snacks and more.  And, for an additional fee, whatever you don’t sell and don’t want to take home, will be taken to the dump for you.

If you are interested, please contact Kate at emmasworld@uniserve.com  or call 604 885 2019.  Date and location to be determined.  (Cooper’s Green Hall, Oct 25th, 10-1pm maybe?)

A little thing like register tapes…

… is a big fundraiser for our kids!  Please save your Clayton’s and Wilson Creek IGA receipts, and bring them to the pre-school/daycare.  They are returned to the store, where they are totaled and 10% is donated back to the Halfmoon Bay Child Care Society.  If we pool together, this will be a big source of money for the society.  Thanks for your support.

Next Child Care Society meeting, October 15th
