Child Care Society AGM, this Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 in the Pod

The HMBCCS AGM is coming up- Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 in the Pod. We have a guest speaker, Hilary Griffiths of the SC CCRR, to give a short speech on ‘Childcare, Community and You’. She will have some interesting information to share about childcare on the Coast. There will be fabulous food, and a chance to win a prize for participating in our search for new fund-raising ideas. Take this opportunity to show your support for the ONLY licensed childcare from South Pender to West Sechelt. Look around at all the great HMB kids you know. Chances are they spent time at HMB Daycare or OOSC. What a great recommendation for our centre. Did you know only one of the political parties in the Federal election have childcare on their platform? With no government funding or programs upcoming, costs to run the center will increase. We must find creative ways to continue to offer “Quality, affordable childcare in Halfmoon Bay.” The number of volunteer hours it takes to support this Society is growing. Can you find a way to contribute?

HMBCCS AGM, Thursday, April 28, 2011 6:30 pm in the Pod at HMB Community School

HMB Child Care Society is having our AGM on Thursday, April 28th at 6:30pm in the Pod.  Along with elections and reports, there will be a fabulous and inspirational guest speaker. The topic is “Childcare, Community and Us”.  There will also be a chance for informal discussions over yummy snacks. Free childcare is available during this, and all HMBCCS meetings.

We are encouraging anyone interested in learning more about our Childcare Society and how it roots itself in this community to join us for this brief meeting.  We particularly invite anyone who might be interested in participating on our board, or at a committee level, to attend.  Elections for all Executive Board positions will be held.  This is a chance for a fresh start  with strong supporters and a clear and active plan.   Membership would involve attending 1 meeting per month, and helping the board to work effectively.  Please join us in support of Halfmoon Bay families.

It is a big clothing exchange for children sized 0-8. Bring spring/ summer clothes that are clean, in good shape and ready to wear (maternity clothes welcome). No rips, tears or stains. Also welcome are books, toys and accessories that are in good condition. Clothes will be separated into 4 major size groups and marked with signs. When the swap begins, look through the piles to find the items in the sizes you need and put them in your bag. There are no minimum requirements for how many items you have to bring or how many you can take, but please be courteous and generous. Items that do not get swapped will be donated.

Upcoming Education workshop.

“Making the Best Educational Choice for Your Child”- A Learning Out of Bounds Workshop

Darcy Kaltio is a BC Certified teacher with 8 years of teaching experience. She has had a passion and commitment for education since she was a youth attending Chatelech. She has since been on a quest to discover how our education system can evolve so that children are more fulfilled by their experience. To discuss her ideas, a workshop will be presented by Darcy Kaltio, Catherine Strickland and Tina Marie Meyer of ‘The Joy of Learning Network’ at Cooper’s Green Hall, in Halfmoon Bay on Sunday, February 8th from 1-4pm. Cost is $20. Please see learningoutofbounds.com   for more details.

In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn about:

-what our public school system is providing

-what alternative schools are providing

-what homeschooling provides

-what the holes are in each of these and what to do about it

-what all of this means for your child

This workshop may be for you if:

you want to ensure that your child’s social, emotional and spiritual being is going to be taken care of at school; you are afraid that the potential you see in your child will be lost at school; you are fearful that you will make a mistake or the wrong choice about your child’s schooling; you are trying to balance the needs of family, career and your child’s school experience; you’ve considered homeschooling and alternative schools but you aren’t sure if those will work for your family.

To Register: Go to the Learning Out of Bounds website where you will be able to register. Or call 250-218-5130 or email info@learningoutofbounds.com  with any questions. Sunday, February 8th, 2009, 1:00-4:00pm Cooper’s Green Hall in beautiful Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast, cost $20.

Silent Auction DONATIONS DESIRED….

Jacquie and the HMB Childcare Society are hosting the Silent Auction portion of the HMB Country Fair.  They are fundraising towards the purchase of a replacement van. If you or your business would like to donate items for auction, it would be a mutually beneficial project: your business will be advertised, the community would have a chance to bid and, hopefully, win their desired item, and the kids will eventually end up with a new van.  Perhaps you are an individual who could donate a few hours gardening, or some gently used toys in a ‘Gift Basket’ that the kids could bid on, or a certificate for a barrel of fruit when your trees produce.  Be creative and donate in the spirit of community.  Please contact Jacquie at 604 885 3103 or email noahpatrick@dccnet.com     (before July 19th)   THANKS!!!!
